Junior Health Education Program - West Tennessee AHEC, Inc.

Title: The Junior Health Education Program

Description:  The Junior Health Education Program provides an opportunity for high school students to experience work in the field of health promotion and begin developing essential skills that will prepare them for post-secondary education and a career in health. Students who successfully complete the training are awarded certificates of completion.

Eligibility/Application Information: High school students in grades 9-12.

High School Summer Institute - The HBCU Wellness Project at Meharry Medical College

Title: The HBCU Wellness Summer Institute for High School Students

Description:  The HBCU Wellness Summer Institute introduces high school students to the practical framework of service learning, core principles of Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) and provides an opportunity to explore health inequities. The Institute is 2 1/2 weeks in length.

SAT Preparation Program - The Meharry Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP)

Title: The Meharry Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP) SAT Prep Program

Description: The Medical Enrichment and SAT Preparation Program is a six-week summer enrichment program for African-American students who have completed the 10th grade.

Summer Media Program - The Meharry Science Education Partnership Award (SEPA)

Title: The SEPA Summer Program

Description: The SEPA Program sponsors a 4 week summer program designed to teach high school students how to create audio and video health messaging materials for their classrooms and peers.

Eligibility/Application Information: Rising juniors and seniors who attend Glencliff High School or Whites Creek High School are eligible for the program.

Summer Mentorship Program - The Meharry Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP)

Title: The Meharry HCOP Summer Mentorship Program

Description: The Meharry Health Careers Opportunity Program sponsors a 6 week

Eligibility/Application Information: The Meharry Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP) sponsors a 6 week summer mentorship program to introduce high school juniors and seniors to healthcare careers. Students attend lectures, shadow healthcare providers, and participate in an oral presentation poster exhibit.
